

I am now a university-educated young adult with arguably more sophisticated tastes in pop culture. I will admit, in the lead up to the release, I worried that the magic of the Twilight love story between 104-year-old vampire Edward and 17-year-old Bella would no longer enthral me as it once did, and that I would see through the façade of what was, objectively speaking, a highly toxic and dangerous relationship. However, I was no longer a naïve pre-teen. Stephenie Meyer officially announced the release of Midnight Sun! Of course, I immediately pre-ordered it. After waiting for such a long time, my expectations were high.


Yet, on May 4th 2020, my teenage dreams came true. Midnight Sun was to be a re-telling of the first novel in the Twilight saga from Edward Cullen’s perspective. I was absolutely SHATTERED when Stephenie Meyer originally abandoned Midnight Sun after parts of the draft copy were leaked online. This still makes me swoon 12 years later…
